The Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an opening for a Lineman/Linewoman. In this role, you will, under limited supervision, perform tasks associated with this position as well as other tasks as directed by management. 

  

Duties and Responsibilities:       

  • Using knowledge of principles and operation of transmission and distribution systems, overhead and underground distribution, and transmission construction and maintenance methods, perform tasks associated with the position. 

  • Install and remove poles, towers, and structures. 

  • Install and change transformers. 

  • Install and maintain underground cable. 

  • Abide by the principles of Safe Conduct of Research including being personally responsible for ensuring safe operations by raising safety concerns, using a questioning attitude, considering hazards for every task, and never stop learning.

Basic (or Required) Qualifications: 

  • Successful completion of a certified lineman apprenticeship 

  • A minimum of three years journeyman level lineman experience.  An equivalent combination of education and relevant lineman experience may be considered.  

  • Knowledge of principles and operation of transmission and distribution systems, overhead and underground distribution and transmission construction and maintenance methods 

  • Valid driver's license 

  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within three months of employment. 

  • Work will involve various physical requirements and certain working conditions and as such a post offer, pre-hire physical will be required 

  

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Formal training programs 

  • Industrial experience 

  • Experience with interrupters 

  • Experience with SNC Vista Gear 

  • Bucket Rescue Training Certification 

  • Manhole Rescue Certification
