Overview:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead scientific projects aimed at advancing our understanding of quantum materials, with a primarily focus on utilizing neutron scattering techniques. This position resides in the Direct Geometry Group in the Spectroscopy Section, Neutron Scattering Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will join a team whose research interests include quantum spin liquid materials, frustrated magnetism, phase transitions and the interplay among degrees of freedom in strongly correlated materials. Your primary research will involve conducting elastic, inelastic and polarized neutron measurements on powder and single crystal materials using the world leading neutron scattering instruments at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at ORNL. This position represents an excellent opportunity to study quantum matter in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment at ORNL.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform neutron scattering experiments and analyze data to understand quantum materials.
- Work with the project team to plan and execute neutron experiments
- Assist in developing experimental workflows to modeling spin-wave excitation from powders and single crystals.
- Report and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present results at international scientific conferences and meetings.

Basic Qualifications:
- PhD in physics, materials science, or related discipline completed within the last five years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in neutron scattering and condensed matter physics.
- A strong record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
- Familiarity with neutron scattering methods to study magnetic materials.
- Experience with computational methods and data analysis.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment on scientifically challenging problems
