Overview:
The Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate’s Document and Records Management group in the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division (NNFD), within the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED), is seeking to hire a Procedure Writer. This position develops and maintains procedures, including adequate implementation of all requirements, for facilities and operations. This position is responsible for developing/maintaining documents as requested and ensuring applicable requirements are met based on activity/document type.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain procedures, division-level plans, and program description documents.
- Develop new and revised administrative and technical procedures that comply with applicable administrative program, safety basis, and nuclear criticality safety requirements, as applicable.
- Ensure procedures are technically adequate and written to a level of detail consistent with the qualifications and training of the expected users.
- Work with applicable section head, facility manager, or group lead for verification and validation of draft technical procedures, as required.
- Perform walkdowns in process areas to ensure technical adequacy and accuracy of process and equipment information in technical procedures.
- Interface with engineering and labeling personnel to ensure components associated with the operations correctly reflect the component descriptions called out in the procedure action steps, diagrams, system alignments, and checklists.
- Coordinate Job Hazard Evaluation reviews to determine what hazard controls are required to implement technical procedures.
- Facilitate the review process for documents, ensuring that stakeholder feedback is considered along with consistent formatting.
- Support the creation and maintenance of other documents including, forms, plans, and program description documents, as needed.
- Support development of procedures/documents for other areas as assigned by ISED Document and Records Management group lead.
- Coordinate documents through review, approval, and distribution as well as additional required analyses based on document type (e.g., Job Hazard Evaluation for technical procedures).
- Assist in conducting program self-audits/self-assessments, as directed.
- Maintain records and interface with records analyst to ensure applicable requirements are met.
- Serve as the document management coordinator (DMC) for supported organizations and attend DMC forums.
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree with 5+ years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience with procedure or other technical writing/editing
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with applicable requirements
- Prior experience in a nuclear environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people having a wide range of technical and scientific backgrounds
- Familiarity with Adobe Form Designer (previously known as Adobe LiveCycle)
